You can find pictures of Palestinian children doing worse things, but that doesn’t make these any less disturbing.

    Spam filters suck 🙂

I can tell you that I had mixed feelings when I first saw the images you linked to last week. On one hand I believe the emotional response of the children was perfectly understandable considering the circumstances, but on the other hand I was, quite frankly, shocked. Israeli children are simply not taught in school, via textbook or teacher, to hate the Pali’s or Lebanese. The same cannot be said of the Pali educational system, such as it is.

I must have looked at the image a dozen or more times because something didn’t seem right, but I couldn’t put put my finger on it. When I showed it to my wife she immediately mentioned that some of the writing is in English, which seemed odd considering that Israeli children of that age group are not routinely taught English with enough aplomb to compose meaningful sentences.

Upon additional investigation I learned that the photo was taken in Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel. It seems the photo first started making the rounds via an Eqyptian blogger but was staged by a number of photojournalists. Since you don’t approve of cutting and pasting of entries from other places here I’ll simply provide the link source for additional background information and let it go from there. When I’m settled in Oshkosh later today or tomorrow I’ll have a quick response to the Dershowitz column you posted.

I read a Guardian article that gave most of context those links do. I think the pictures are disturbing precisely because the kids don’t know what they’re doing. They aren’t expressing the kind of hate instilled in Palestinian children, but their parents certainly should know better.
