Comment spam returns…again

November 30, 2004 Leave a comment Go to comments

I’m getting hammered with comment spam again. A lot of it is caught by the spam word list and Blacklist, but that doesn’t really help, considering I have to go through and delete it anyway. So, I’m now trying this hack, which changes the wp-comments-post.php name. Hopefully that works.

    So, did the hack work?

    So far, yes.

I installed that hack my second day at LitW after I got hit with 20 spams. I’ve had absolutely no spam since that time.

Cool. Eventually they’ll probably look for the renamed page, though. It looks like it’s pretty easy to change, though.

Actually, I’m planning on changing the name of the file in the hack occassionally. That way, someone who installs the hack a month from now will have a different file name than someone who installs the hack today. If I keep changing the name, hopefully spammers will never be able to target the right file.🙂

Sounds like a solution. The hack seems to be working perfectly, so nice job.🙂

Maybe I’ll try it, too. WpBlacklist is only marginally effective, anyway.
