Because I'm not cool enough to get an iPod

Actually, I’m not rich enough to get an iPod. So I got a Dell Digital Jukebox today. I still have a 32 mb Eigerman mp3 player, one of the first players to come out about 5 years ago. This Dell one is working great so far. All 12 gigs of my mp3 collection are loaded up (all of which is completely legal, ripped from my CD collection. Really), which didn’t take quite as long as I thought, though still pretty slowly (damn USB 1.1). Sounds pretty good, though I’ve noticed some noise in a few mp3s. I’ve never used an iPod, so I can’t compare it to that, but this works as well as I’d like. Of course, I ditched the Musicmatch and Dell software right away and went to some third party software and the firmware is the newest, so that helps. I’m not paying $100 more just so I can be hip. Besides, it’d take more than just an iPod to do it.

See, I am finding myself in trouble now that I am ripping to OGG format. I am actually thinking about using FLAC or SHN as well but not now since I just finished ripping the majority of my albums.

I think one of the Nomad players supports OGG. I haven’t ever messed around with other formats, other than Apple’s AAC, which seems decent.

The most well-known players that support ogg format is the iRiver players. I’d buy one, but I just can’t rationalize spending that much money when I have a perfectly good CD/MP3 player already. Abou, the problem with ripping to FLAC or SHN is that it’d take 3x+ the space of your oggs. You only have so much space.
