I haven’t been paying much attention to Montana’s AG race. I probably should. I missed this, from around a week ago.
One of the Republican candidates runs SETI@home. He’s now being mocked for being an alien hunter.
Seriously? You’re mocking someone for running a program that helps analyze radio signals? This isn’t some guy running around looking for UFOs and touting abduction stories. He’s donating spare computing power to a cause that’s unlikely to succeed, but hardly something to disparage.
Not only that, he’s been doing that since 1999, when the project started. While it hasn’t succeeded in locating an ETI signals, it was a demonstration of a large distributed computing project, the first of its kind. Now we have ones like Folding@home and Einstein@home, which do uncontroversial and useful work using the same or similar architecture as what was developed for SETI@home. They pioneered those kinds of projects, in other words.
I can see thinking SETI is a waste of time, but mocking someone for running SETI@home makes you a moron.
This is brilliant. Andy and company are defending “Operation Chaos” as being open and honest. Open and honest about your dishonesty. Wonders never cease, do they? It’s vanishingly unlikely this whole thing will accomplish anything more than giving Andy his 15 minutes of fame, so all we’re left with is what it says about some Republicans’ respect for the process. Happily, other Republicans have condemned this stunt.
The Hammond Report has always been somewhat unique. We have intelligent conservative bloggers here in Montana. We also have some fairly dumb ones. Same goes for the liberal side. However, Andy’s commentary is unique; the depth and consistency of the stupidity is overwhelming. It has the worst of global warming denialism, abstinence-only idiocy, and the most shallow understanding of Democrats and liberals I’ve seen.
Yes, this post doesn’t have anything more substantive than me calling someone an idiot. But that’s what blogs are for, right?
I will eventually start commenting on politics again. For now, this isn’t a bad perspective on the recent candidate visits to our state. I’m not a Clinton supporter, but it does appear a lot of Obama supporters were acting like idiots. Then there’s the raving lunatic in LitW’s comments, but that’s really not different than usual.
On the other hand, Clinton isn’t doing anything to impress people lately. Claiming she was under fire when she wasn’t, claiming that she was criticizing the Iraq war before Obama…it’s more than a little annoying. The pure cynicism that is her advocacy for seating MIchigan and Florida is older, but still damned annoying.
She’s behind by every measure. It’s close, but essentially impossible for her to come out on top. She’s going to have to have the superdelegates overturn the will of Democratic voters. That’s a terrible outcome for the party, so I can’t blame people for thinking she has sense of entitlement.
I was not aware of this (link will only work for a limited time because the Chronicle is a terrible newspaper).
I don’t like rap, but well, they can do whatever they want. This sentence, however, is something else:
Nickel and Krisp also are the rhyme slayers in the rap group, Filth and Foul, and they’re backed up on stage by Joe Hogan, also known as DJ Joe Bugz, who blasts thumping beats.
That’s all kinds of awkward.
Is Rehberg going to have a fight on his hands? Jay says yes.
I suppose someone has to be a cheerleader for Montana Democrats, but come on. He’s going after Rehberg’s support of the Bush administration? Yeah, we tried that last time. That was about all Lindeen talked about. Sure, Bush’s approval rating has fallen sharply, but Rehberg’s hasn’t and Bush is going away. I wish Hunt the best, but he’s going to overcome Rehberg’s approval ratings and name recognition, when the last Democratic challenger wasn’t even close? Color me skeptical.
Again, I hope Hunt does put up a good fight and at least bring Rehberg down a few notches, and he’ll have to do something unbelievably stupid for me not to vote for him, but I would be surprised if Rehberg’s even remotely worried at this point.
Resident lunatic state rep Roger Koopman wants to punish the not conservative enough from the MT GOP. He’s using Natelson’s voting index to pick the targets. Judging by that index (all of Montana’s Democrats are labeled liberal, while the majority of the Republicans are moderate or liberal), we live in a socialist paradise.
I must point out, though, Koopman registered a 98 on the 100 point scale. What’s this 2% ideological infidelity? Doesn’t he know that our very freedom is at stake here? There’s no place for even the slightest waffling.
How we’ve gone from that statement to “Burns has been exonerated” is beyond me. Iverson informed us that Burns wasn’t a target of the investigation, so it wouldn’t seem like someone who wasn’t being pursued could be exonerated.
As I pointed out a while back, if Burns’ vote wasn’t for sale, he looks worse on the Marianas vote.
But, I suppose those non-limp-wristed, non-pussy, very manly Montana bloggers will have their day to get out pent up frustration over Burns’ loss (or just general partisan anger, I suppose). And some of the limp-wristed pussies of the Montana blogosphere who thought Burns was going to be indicted will have to eat their words. All in all, though, Burns lost for many good reasons and our new Senator is a major improvement.
Now we should all just move on and begin working together for a better future. We should put all this partisan sniping aside. Right? Hey, where are you going?
This will be here for a week. There will be new content below it.
Damn Griz.
UPDATE: Image now removed for your viewing pleasure.
It seems to be the cool thing on conservative Montana blogs to label liberal bloggers with some kind of epithet containing the word “pussy.” I thought I’d been spared such a label and honestly, I was a little disappointed. No more, though. I seem to be one of the “tres amigos of the Montana Mewling Pussy Brigade,” according to one of our more hysterical Montana bloggers. I feel like part of the club now.
That post and its comments are a good read, though. Mike is reduced to nonsensical questions to counter Jay’s point about suicide terrorism not being due to a particular religion. We also learn that the war on terrorism is just like WW2. It’s pretty amusing.
As he and Craig did last year, Matt has set up a donation page for the Montana Food Bank Network. Head over and give a little if you can.
