Hate mail
This is charming. I’m hardly a fan of her writing and there are plenty of bloggers whose opinions I actively loathe, but I’ve never been tempted to write hate mail of any sort. I don’t really get it.
It seems pretty balanced, too. We’ve all seen hate mail on blogs from liberals, conservatives, the religious, the non-religious, people defending science, alties, etc. It’s also pretty obviously relegated to email. There seem to be few bloggers who rise to such profanity-laced incoherency and even commenters typically shy from the really bad end of the spectrum. Is it really just that email is somewhat private? I have to say, the moment I get any particularly vicious hate mail, it’s going up on here (I’d have to get email first, I suppose). That sort of thing isn’t exactly uncommon.
I guess I’m not surprised by people acting like assholes, but I do find it curious that a lot of people seem to think vicious hate mail is somehow useful.
Yeah, publishing hate mail is fun!
You know what, I have never gotten a piece of negative mail even though I publish my email address. You are right, there is a big difference between a sour comment and email.
