That VP position
Well, I had a nice Fourth of July, working and watching fireworks. I guess that’s an all American way of celebrating, isn’t it? Anyway, apparently Kerry is going to pick his VP today. Who’s it gonna be? Edwards? That’s who I’d guess, but I’m not one for predictions. Josh Marshall has an interesting post:
Point being, that since 1980 the norm for vice-presidential picks seems to be that pundits bandy about half a dozen names of serious contenders. And then the pick ends up being someone who was either never even considered or someone who was thought the longest of long-shots.
Now, like everyone else did in 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996 and 2000, I certainly figure that it’ll be one of the logical choices — Edwards or Gephardt most likely. But if it is one of those two, it’ll be a break from the trend of the last quarter century.
I actually hope so, for no other reason that for something interesting to happen. I like Edwards, but let’s get somebody no one’s expecting out there.
Hillary Clinton!
That was a joke. Wouldn’t that fuck up some conspiracy theories about the Clintons, though? We’ll just have to wait and see.
UPDATE: Well, it’s Edwards. And ignore those codes that were here earlier. Sheesh, at least I didn’t leave my credit card number up there.
