A site just pointed out to me, Franken Lies, basically has the best critique of Franken’s Lies book. Though, that’s not as much a compliment to the site, so much as it is a reflection on the terrible state of critiques so far. Several of his claims are wrong, some catch small mistakes. Worth a read.
Also, here’s the Franken board’s topic on the subject, with a good response to the site. I’ll try to add some things later.
I can now post again, so I better post something. No guarantees on more posts tonight, but I was just post my favorite cds of 2003 (as if you care, but damn it, you’re getting them!):
Katatonia – Viva Emptiness
Pineapple Thief – Variations on a Dream (scroll to second one)
Farmakon – A Warm Glimpse
Even though I’m cold (a balmy 20 below tonight) and should go to sleep, I haven’t done this for a while, so here goes:
Elayne notices the Objective Ministries site. That site is hilarious. It seems to be a parody site, but I’m not sure.
Todd has a nice post on Dean and some criticism he’s received.
Interesting marriage statistics over at Trish Wilson’s blog
Crackpots in action.
I am now declaring that there are too many “Which character are you?” quizzes on the internet.
Yikes, this guy is actually published in some way?
Good post about Homeland Security.
I see from Jesse that Rachel Lucas is back blogging. Though she claims to not be a conservative, she really should lay off those sites.
Ads compare Bush to Hitler (link via Steve Gilliard)
“Certainly myself, as an American and as a Jew, I’m disgusted by the casual use of Hitler by liberal Democrats and groups such as MoveOn.org,” said Mr. Cantor, the House chief deputy majority whip.
…
The two 30-second ads were submitted as part of a contest MoveOn.org sponsored. The organization invited submissions of spots criticizing Mr. Bush’s record. Two of the submissions compared Mr. Bush to the Nazi dictator of Germany, whose regime killed 6 million Jews during World War II.
…
“None of these was our ad, nor did their appearance constitute endorsement or sponsorship by MoveOn.org Voter Fund,” he said. “They will not appear on TV. We do not support the sentiment expressed in the two Hitler submissions.”
And that last part is what some people seem to be missing. I mean, sheesh, do Republicans really care? A couple of people submitted ads for a contest that would never actually get on TV (though they are acceptable for TV, as in it doesn’t use obscene language, violence or nudity)? Is this important? If it was an actual MoveOn ad, fine, but an entry in a contest? Basically, it’s a pathetic smear tactic.
I didn’t read the article this guy was responding to, but his response to it was interesting by itself. Alright, not really that unique, but quite stupid nonetheless. In short, he’s a member of the Army of God, and he’s defending a Christian terrorist:
“There was a time in 2001,” notes Clarkson, “when for the first time in history three of the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted criminals were antiabortion domestic terrorists.” What a sad commentary this is! The days of womb children murderers being found on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted list is over. We have devolved. Indeed the wicked should be terrified of good men. Unrepentant baby murderers, sodomites, adulterers, man stealers, pedophiles, rapists and the like should indeed cringe in the shadows at the presence of a God-fearing man, even as they would cringe before Jesus, because they are to act as his body on earth, receiving him as their Governor.
Man stealers? I really don’t know what he’s getting at there, he listed adulterers and sodomites.
EDIT: Oops, just realized he probably meant people who enter into affairs with married people. Doesn’t solve the “man” part, though.
I have heard it said that Christian terrorist Clay Waagner did some things wrong during his 10-month reign of terror and that he does not deserve hero status because he was a bank robber and a car thief. But it should also be noted that this bank-robbing, car-thieving terrorist is directly responsible for saving the lives of 5,000 innocent babies. What great things have brother Clay Waagner’s detractors done to qualify them to stand in judgment of his deeds?
…
The wicked civilian and the federal government appear to be co-conspirators in their coup to overthrow Christ and his people. For the most part the wicked are no longer terrified of the God-fearing man. Those blessed few that actually do terrify the wicked are vigorously denounced and punished by the government “of the people.” I often weep over the persecution of the Christian terrorist in this country, for their oppression accomplishes three goals. First, it comforts and strengthens the wicked. Second, it discourages the would-be Christian terrorist from action. Third, it makes the Christian terrorist feel alone in his cause.
Most of the time when I leave the killing place my self-esteem diminishes, as I have failed where others have succeeded. Pleading, politics and pandering have done precious little to stop the holocaust against the innocent. But the Christian terrorist is not so inadequate. Dead abortionists don’t kill babies, and a fire-bombed death camp can no longer facilitate the holocaust against them.

Israel announces Golan expansion
Israel announced plans today to double the number of Jewish settlers living in the Golan Heights, a disputed region captured from Syria in 1967.
In a move which could derail talks with Damascus, the Israeli agriculture minister, Yisrael Katz, told the daily Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper that the government wanted to consolidate its hold over the region before opening any peace negotiations with Syria.
About 17,000 Jewish settlers now live in the Golan Heights, which has high strategic value to Israel because it overlooks the sea of Galilee and has important water reserves.
Ok, I don’t see the point here. Would this make Israel safer? I don’t see how; it will likely create even more hate and lead to more recruitment for extremist groups. Would it contribute to peace? That’s laughable. So why the huge expansion plans? A means of collective punishment? More settlers that will soak up the resources of the area, denying Palestinians? Strengthening the hold on the area, with the goal of annexing it in the future? Those are the reasons I can think of, and they are all quite distasteful. Does this not matter to people who take the “Israeli side”? I doubt all of them believe Israel has some right to territorial expansion.
Old story, but the latest development seems to be that the British pilot’s union has some sort of agreement with one airline.
I’d say the union is right on this one. Why would you want an armed guard on a plane? Why not just a sky marshal with a tazer or something similar. Guns seem like a recipe for disaster.
