So we’ve all heard about the Feith memo. Here’s what I gather about it:
1. This is Douglas Feith. He’s a big part of the hyped WMD thing. The organization set up in the Pentagon (I think) embodies the whole idea of “cherry-picking,” taking evidence that supports their cause no matter if it’s actually been validated or not. He’s not trustworthy in the least.
2. The DoD dismissed the memo.
3. None of this is new, the CIA has likely already seen this info, and they haven’t been convinced.
4. The Prague meeting and the Ansar al-Isalm connection are old and have been debunked.
Missed anything?
From Pharyngula, here. There are way too many of these things. This one rates you on a left/right scale and a idealism/pragmatism scale. Not surprisingly, I’m a -6.6193 to the left (out of 16.6132) and 1.1435 to the pragmatism side. Apparently I’m about the same as Charles Kennedy. And I don’t know who that is. Oh well.
Study: No sign Saddam transferred WMD
WASHINGTON (AP) — A new study by an independent military and intelligence expert who toured Iraq recently found no evidence that Saddam Hussein tried to transfer weapons of mass destruction to terrorists.
Anthony Cordesman, a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, met with top U.S. officials in Iraq, including David Kay, the CIA representative leading the search for chemical, biological and other unconventional weapons.
President Bush, in justifying the invasion and occupation of Iraq, said he feared Saddam, then Iraq’s authoritarian president, would supply weapons of mass destruction to terrorist organizations such as al-Qaida.
“No evidence of any Iraqi effort to transfer weapons of mass destruction technology or weapons to terrorists. Only possibility was Saddam’s Fedayeen, and talk only,” Cordesman wrote of his briefing with Kay. The Fedayeen is the deposed leader’s former paramilitary force.
I know, it’s not fair. I mean, the Feith memo appears to be nothing, the last refuge of the “they really did have WMDs” argument falls, the attack the media strategy over bad news in Iraq doesn’t appear to be working especially well, the Bush hating meme is laughable. It’s just not fair.
Before I forget, I’m voting for LoL member And Then and the post Late Night With Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist. Check it out.
Ok, it seems I’ve lost a couple days of blog posts. Not that there was anything important, but still. That’s weird. Some weird server problems lately, so hopefully this post sticks. Did anyone actually see the other posts I made?
Ten Commandments Judge Stripped of Office
“Finding no other viable alternatives, this court hereby finds that Roy S. Moore be removed from his position as chief justice of Alabama,” said a statement read by a member of the nine-member judicial panel.
I saw the end of the hearing on Fox this morning. He absolutely deserves. And he was still acting like a prick afterwards, when they showed him addressing his supporters. Scary. Those people are in their own little world.
CIA Report Says U.S. Losing Popular Support in Iraq
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A CIA (news – web sites) report concludes that ordinary Iraqis increasingly are siding with the insurgency amid doubts about the U.S. ability to stamp it out, officials said on Wednesday, while the U.S. administrator in Iraq (news – web sites) said it was hard to figure out where the Iraqi public stands.
Word of the report came as President Bush (news – web sites)’s national security team held urgent meetings at the White House with Paul Bremer, the U.S. civil administrator in Iraq, aimed at accelerating the transfer of power to Iraqis.
The CIA’s classified field assessment concluded that many Iraqis are losing faith in American efforts in Iraq amid the U.S. failure to crush an increasingly bold resistance, said U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The report, warning of possible failure for Bush’s efforts to establish Iraq as a democracy if the situation is not fixed, said aggressive U.S. counter-insurgency measures were leaving many Iraqis disillusioned and pushing them to support the insurgency, one U.S. official said.
We can’t fail! We have resolve!
But apparently we are missing a clue.
Oh wait, it’s the CIA. Bunch of Bush haters they are. We can completely disregard this report.
Al Franken Considers Move to Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS – Comedian Al Franken, a Minnesota native, says he’s considering moving back to the state to run against Republican Sen. Norm Coleman in 2008.
“It’s a long way away, five years away,” Franken told the Star Tribune this week. “It might be crazy. I might not be the best candidate. Part of this is seeing what happens next year and what direction things are going.”
His possible bid for the Senate was first reported by Newsweek. When asked to respond to the story, Coleman said: “I have no comment. I don’t do comedy.”
Hey, it’d bump up C-Span’s ratings.
Interesting idea, who knows if it’ll happen. I don’t know what kind of candidate he’d make, but I’d assume he’ll have backbone, and that’s good.
The lack of blogging is due to a test today and a test tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll have a full spate of assinine postings tomorrow.
